LANCERS WOMEN’S SOCCER UNDER NEW LEADERSHIP

The Loyalist Lancers varsity women’s soccer team will be under new leadership for the 2018 season. Accomplished local soccer authority Rob Terry has been named Head Coach with Jordan McConnell rounding out the staff as Assistant Coach.

The coaches bring a wealth of knowledge from years of playing and coaching experience. Rob Terry has been a driving force behind the Belleville Soccer Club (formerly Belleville Youth Soccer Club) for many years and boasts a lengthy coaching resume that includes house league, high school, rep & high performance soccer.  Jordan McConnell is a former Lancer who has been involved in the varsity program for the past 2 seasons.

The new coaches take over the team after the departure of longtime coach, coach Steve Whitehead. Whitehead had been a member of the coaching staff for 14 seasons and lead the squad to a 0-10-2 record in 2017. The Lancers most recent post season run under Whitehead’s direction came in 2014-15 with a 1st round win over the St. Lawrence Vikings before getting knocked out in the 2nd by the Humber Hawks.

“We’re really excited to have Rob and Stephane joining the Lancers” said Athletic Director, Jim Buck. “They bring a lot of experience from many different levels of soccer and are more than capable of taking on a college team. Individually, they’re extremely talented coaches. They complement each other so well and when you add Jordan into the mix, they create a really dynamic coaching team.”

The team will graduate a number of key players from the 2017/18 season and retuning players will have the opportunity to train with the new coaches during the off season.

“I am really excited for the opportunity to take the helm of the women’s soccer program at Loyalist” says Coach Terry. “I have a great love and passion for the game – I’m very competitive and I like to win.” Having attended multiple games on campus this season, Coach Terry is looking forward to being a part of the Lancers family.  “An important part of my decision to take on the challenge of building a strong program at Loyalist was seeing the commitment of the College Administration, the excellent newly renovated outdoor facilities, and the positive spirit already present at the school towards athletics.”

The newly appointed coaching staff will begin off season training in the upcoming weeks. Anyone interested in taking part can find more information by contacting the coaches at womensoccer@loyalistcollege.com
