The Lancers dropped their record to 3-5 with a tough final loss to the St. Lawrence Vikings on Friday in Kingston. Having only shot 20% from the field in the first half, the Lancers offensive struggles continued throughout the game and couldn’t push past the 4th place Vikings, resulting in a 67-51 loss.
The Lancers have been inconsistent throughout the first half, taking a couple of big wins but losing tight 2 point games. Their first win of the year came against the now 0-8 Georgian Grizzlies in a convincing 57-40 victory. Making it back to back wins, they took down the 3rd place Durham Lords by a score of 79-59 with 3 players racking up double digit points – Jenni Thompson (27), Katie Wiggins (19) and Brittany Mason (19).
The team’s third win came against the Algonquin Thunder in Ottawa where the Lancers snuck out a 68-66 victory, then falling to the Thunder 67-51 the next week. Thompson recorded a season high 26 points while fellow veteran player Kurstyn Brant contributed 21.
Thompson continues to lead the Lancers in scoring with 163 points on the season and sits atop the OCAA league leaders board with 23.3 points per game.
Leading the team in her own way, Kurstyn Brant has established herself as one of the toughest and hardest working players on the court game after game. Through pure grit and determination, Brant shines defensively and does exactly what her team needs her to do.
The Lancers get back into action in January when they host the Centennial Colts.
