The women’s volleyball team wrapped up the first half of their season with a quick 3-0 win over the Fleming Knights in Peterborough Friday night.
After taking the first set 25-17, the Lancers kicked things up a notch and held the Knights to 11 points in the second and 14 in the third to complete the sweep. Sara Piana Yafu maintained her status as leading scorer with 14 kills, followed by Christine Madogo with 8 and Alicia Orsborne with 7.
The win was the 8th of the season for the dominant Lancers, suffering their only loss to the Algonquin Thunder in a hard fought, 5 set battle in November. The Lancers have only lost 6 sets in the first half of the season and recorded 6 3 set victories.
Piana Yafu is not only leading her team in scoring (135), but the entire OCAA & CCAA in kills per set (4.66). With her her powerful & impressive swing combined with an assortment of shots at her disposal, the third year veteran averages nearly 40 points per game on her attack alone.
Outside hitter Alicia Orsborne has come into her own in her second year with the team. Transforming from a quiet & timid player, Orsborne has become a consistently positive voice on the team. Her work ethic in practice translates into game play where she comes up clutch for the Lancers with smart offensive swings & aggressive serves.
The Lancers look to continue their success in the second half of the year when they host the George Brown Huskies at home on January 13th.
