WVB | 3-0 ON THE WEEK

The women’s volleyball team completed a perfect 3 game week with victories over Fleming Knights, Canadore Panthers and Georgian Grizzlies.

Starting off the week against the Knights, the Lancer rolled through a quick 3-0 win with set scores of 25-14, 25-20, 25-12. Alicia Orsborne, Hannah Dossett & Lorraine Spellman each contributed 3 aces to the team’s total of 15 while Emilie Leneveu added 4 aces to the team’s 10.

Hitting the road to North Bay, the Lancers squared off against the Canadore Panthers Friday night.  The game got off to a rough start with the Panthers taking an early lead before the Lancers battled back to tie it up in the middle of the set.  Despite the mid game comeback, the Lancers fell 21-25 in the first set.

Earning their way back into the lead, the Lancers took a 25-14 win in the second followed up 26-24 set victories to take the game 3-1.

Sara Piana Yafu lead the game in scoring with an outstanding 25 kills, 2 blocks and 2 aces for a total of 29 points while teammate Hannah Dossett contribued 5 aces to the win.

Having secured their second win of the week, the Lancers headed to Barrie to take on the Georgian Grizzlies.

Taking the first set 26-24, the Lancers dropped the second 21-25 to tie the game at 1 set each. In a true battle, the two sides went point for point in the final portion of the set with the Lancers finally edging out the Grizzlies 30-28 to regain the lead before taking a 25-18 win to finish the game.

Piana Yafu remained dominant in the match with 21 kills, 4 blocks and an ace for another 26 points. Libero Raven Maracle was a crucial part of the team’s win with stellar serve receive and 15 digs.

The 13-1 Lancers host the Algonquin Thunder on Friday February 2nd. The first semester match up between the two teams gave the Lancers their only loss of the season

The Lancers will be looking for redeption against the Algonquin Thunder when they host them on Friday February 2nd. The Thunder are the only team to have beaten the Lancers this season, but the Lancers will be looking to extend their win streak to 8 Friday night at 6pm.
