Two Lancer volleyball players have been named Lancer Athletes of the Week.
Third year player Sara Piana Yafu had an exception week, contributing 72 points to the team’s wins over Fleming Knights, Canadore Panthers and Georgian Grizzlies.
Piana Yafu’s top performance came against the Canadore Panthers in North Bay in the first of back to back games over the weekend. The 5’9 outside hitter scored a season high 29 total points, including 25 kills, 2 aces and 2 blocks. After getting off to a rough start in the game and only scoring 2 points in the first set, Piana Yafu answered back in the best way possible and went on to dominate the match.
Piana Yafu and her team are now 13-1 on the season and look to continue their 7 game win streak when they take on the Algonquin Thunder at home on Friday February 2nd at 6pm.
Josh Roberts has been a consistent presence on the men’s volleyball team all year. With 161 points on the season, he leads his team in kills (133) and service aces (20)and was the top Lancer point getter in both weekend games. A natural leader on and off the court, Roberts’ passion and work ethic are evident in every moment of every game.
The men’s volleyball team look to rebound from the weekend when they take on the Algonquin Thunder following the women’s game Friday night at 8pm.
