Though their playoff crossover was already set, the Lancers weren’t about to write off their final game of the season. In front of a packed house, they started the game strong taking an early lead over St. Lawrence – something they never relinquished, though it came right down to the wire to claim victory.
With balanced offensive output and strong defensive play, Loyalist lead 20-12 after the first quarter and went into half-time leading 46-25. The Vikings weren’t going to roll over and battled back hard in the 3rd frame with strong defense of their own and clutch three-pointers including one at the buzzer to cut the lead to 61-55 going into the final quarter. The fight continued as SLC pushed to make it 72-72 with 10 seconds left on the clock. With Loyalist in possession, the Vikings took two timeouts in a row; however, it was all for naught as Angleo Sarsonas made a key drive down low scoring the winning basket with 0.4s left on the clock sealing the win with a final score of 74-72.
In a demonstration of unselfish team play, Christopher Asomani, Williamson Dorelian and Angelo Sarsonas all scored 15 points with Rijien Vilori contributing 14 and Noah Korovesi putting up 12.
The Lancers end their regular season with a record of 9-11 (7th East) and will face the Redeemer Royals (1st West) in a crossover playoff match on the road on Saturday February 24th.
