The women’s basketball team fell short of a win after an huge comeback in the third quarter of their playoff game against the Niagara Knights on Sunday in Welland.
The Lancers got off to a rough start and quickly found themselves trailing behind the Knights, building to a troubling 30-17 score at the half.
Where most would have counted them out of the game, the Lancers made a resounding comeback in the 3rd quarter, holding the Knights to only 12 points and scoring 22 of their own to close the gap to 3 heading into the final 10 minutes of the game. Fifth year veteran Jenni Thompson finally found her shot and contributed 8 points in the third while rookie guard Brianna Arichara added 8 of her own.
The Lancers brought the game within 1 point in the fourth before the Knights regained control of the game. With less than a minute left on the clock and training 56-51, the Lancers sent the Knights to the line 4 times and missed 2 opportunities to score, finishing the game on the losing side of a 62-51 decision.
Thompson lead the Lancers in scoring with 17 points and 13 rebounds followed closely by Arichara who had 16 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
