Loyalist Lancers’ Emily Mealing Named Valedictorian for Class of 2025

In an inspiring moment at Loyalist College's graduation ceremony, Emily Mealing, a fourth-year student in the Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Program, was named one of three valedictorians for the Class of 2025. Emily's story is one of personal growth, determination, and transformation.

Throughout her time at Loyalist, Emily was more than just a dedicated student; she was a pillar of support for her peers, a committed member of the women's soccer team, a peer tutor, and a volunteer coach. Her ability to balance academics, athletics, and leadership roles is remarkable, and her deep empathy has made a lasting impact on both her teammates and fellow students.

In her valedictory speech, Emily shared a personal journey that resonated deeply with her classmates. She spoke about the challenges and fears she faced as a quiet, shy individual who worried about making friends, joining the team, and succeeding academically. For Emily, the transition from high school to college was daunting, but the opportunities and people she found at Loyalist allowed her to not only rise above those anxieties, but truly enjoy and embrace the college experience.

"I am sure we all have memories that we will carry with us" Emily began "For me, I'll remember late nights trying to learn anatomy, sitting through presentations that went way past the 5-to-10-minute limit, participating in campus recreation off campus adventures to reduce stress, and cheering on our Loyalist Lancer teams either here in the Lancer dome or outside on the field.  I would encourage you all to cherish the memories you have created, and the friends you have made here."

Her experiences on the soccer field, in the classroom, and as a volunteer have shaped her into a leader who is now admired for her kindness, empathy, and dedication to helping others. Whether mentoring fellow students as a peer tutor, supporting her teammates through difficult moments, or coaching younger athletes, Emily demonstrates an unwavering commitment to others' success. Her leadership, both as an athlete and a mentor, exemplify the core values of teamwork, respect, and determination.

Emily is a shining example of what it means to take full advantage of the opportunities that come your way and to never give up on your personal growth.
