Fitness Centre Guidelines

Gym Environment Expectations

  • All users must be full-time Loyalist College students with an active membership.
  • You must sign in at the front desk to use the space.
  • Everyone has the right to enjoy their workout.
  • To help others feel comfortable around you, please refrain from grunting or yelling when lifting weights
  • Respect other people’s personal space. Share the space so everyone can enjoy it.
  • This is a judgement-free zone- please ensure your actions and words reflect that.

Proper Equipment Use 

  • If you are unfamiliar with equipment and machines, please ask staff for assistance.
  • Refrain from using weights on cardio machines. 
  • Avoid bouncing, dropping, or slamming all weights. 
  • For the safety of everyone, clips must be used on barbells regardless of weight.
  • Chalk is not permitted within the fitness centre.

Equipment Clean Up 

  • Members are required to clean each machine after use.
  • Please wipe down and put all equipment away after use. 

Proper Fitness Attire

  • All patrons must change in a change room, not in the gym.
  • Street clothes or jeans are not permitted while using fitness areas. 
  • Dry, closed-toe athletic shoes are required (dress shoes, boots, etc. are not permitted).
  • Gym bags are not permitted in the fitness area. Please leave your belongings in a locker or in the cubbies provided.
  • Lockers are for day use only. You are not permitted to keep belongings there overnight.
  • Loyalist College is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

General Guidelines

  • All participants must sign the waiver before using the Fitness Facility
  • Disruptive or abusive behaviour towards staff, other clients, or equipment will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the fitness centre.
  • No food in the fitness centre.
  • No music playing directly from your device. Please use your headphones or enjoy the music provided.
  • No phone/video calls in the gym, please exit the gym for these conversations.
  • No filming/photography, digital recording or posting material unless approved by Athletics and Recreation Staff. 

Failure to abide by Athletics, Recreation and Fitness guidelines may lead to suspension of privileges.
