Caleb Hugh has been the head coach of the Lancers women's basketball program since 2018, leading the team with a clear vision built around attitude, effort, and player development. With over 20 years of coaching experience, Hugh has transformed the program into a competitive force within the OCAA, earning recognition as the OCAA East Division Coach of the Year in both 2023 and 2025. His leadership has helped guide the team to some of its best results in recent years, emphasizing a process-driven approach where improvement, culture, and trust come first.

At the core of the program’s success is the incredible coaching staff Hugh has assembled—a group of dedicated, knowledgeable, and passionate coaches who share his commitment to developing well-rounded student-athletes. Together, they prioritize skill development, tactical growth, and fostering a team environment built on accountability and support. The team operates under the belief that attitude is the most important trait an individual can bring to the program, with an emphasis on positivity, resilience, and trust in one another.

Hugh's player-first approach extends beyond Xs and Os. He is committed to ensuring that each athlete has the tools and support necessary to maximize their potential both on and off the court. By instilling confidence, work ethic, and a growth mindset, he prepare Lancers athletes to excel not only in basketball but in life.

A former Loyalist Lancer himself, Hugh understands firsthand what it takes to balance academics, athletics, and personal growth. His playing career started at Quinte Secondary School, where he won Sr. Boys Bay of Quinte and COSSA Championships, earning team MVP honors. He then continued at Loyalist College, where he contributed both on the court and in the classroom, earning the Scott Reid Award.
Outside of Loyalist, Hugh has made a significant impact on the local basketball scene, coaching in programs such as 613 Spiders AAU, the Belleville Spirits, and multiple high school teams. His deep community ties and extensive experience have helped create a strong recruiting pipeline for the Lancers, bringing in athletes who buy into the program’s culture and values.

Beyond the game, Hugh is proud to share his passion for basketball with his daughters, Ava and Norah, who are unofficial members of the coaching staff and proud supporters of the Lancers women’s basketball team. Their presence reinforces the sense of family and unity that defines the program.

With a culture rooted in attitude, effort, and trust, Hugh and his coaching staff continue to push the Lancers program forward, building a legacy of player development, team success, and a commitment to excellence.
