Three Lancers Earn OCAA Women’s Rugby 7s League Honours
The Loyalist Lancers women's rugby team capped off a strong 2025 regular season with three local athletes earning OCAA Women's Rugby 7s League Awards, announced Wednesday, October 22.
Holly McMaster and Faith Ayres were both named OCAA League All-Stars, while rookie Rowynn Cochrane earned a spot on the OCAA All-Rookie Team, highlighting the Lancers' mix of veteran leadership and emerging talent.
McMaster, a second-year Paramedic student, was a consistent force for the Lancers throughout the season, contributing six tries and providing key leadership as a team co-captain. Her combination of poise, strength, and tactical awareness made her a standout both on and off the field.
Ayres, a second-year Fitness & Health Promotion student, led the team in scoring and was previously recognized as an OCAA Athlete of the Week earlier in the season. Her speed, vision, and finishing ability helped drive the Lancers' offensive attack, solidifying her position as one of the top players in the province.
Cochrane, a first-year Nursing student, made an immediate impact in her debut season, earning OCAA All-Rookie Team honours. Known for her toughness and competitiveness, she was a consistent contributor in the forward pack and showed strong on-field leadership well beyond her years.
The 2025 season saw the Lancers finish fourth overall in league play with a 6–5 record leading into the OCAA Championships on October 25th at Conestoga College. With strong leadership returning and a talented core of developing players, the future looks bright for women's rugby at Loyalist.
